Let me introduce you to Mick Taylor, possibly the most photographed man in London, give or take a few politicians. He's usually to be found with a small group of friends, sitting on a bench outside Beigel Bake at the northern end of Brick Lane. A photographer's dream and very photogenic, Mick is usually happy to provide a portrait. Our paths first crossed about four years ago, sometimes we just have a short conversation, at other times he agrees to a quick photo-session.
A very snappy dresser, on this occasion, Mick was wearing spats, striped trousers and a neckerchief in the style of those formerly worn by porters in Spitalfields Market. Mick was enjoying a coffee at a table outside a cafe in Cheshire Street chatting to Serena, owner of the vintage camera shop next door. Sadly, Serena's shop is no longer but Mick is an enduring reminder of East End characters that are now few and far between.
My favourite location for photography is also covered by The Gentle Author, creator of the wonderful 'Spitalfields Life' blog, so it is no coincidence that we occasionally speak to and photograph the same people. For a further glimpse into the life and history of Mick Taylor, you will find it here:
