As with my black & white portraits, these colour images are the result of random encounters and rarely do those chance meetings last for more than a few minutes. No studio lighting, no reflectors, just me, my camera and my subject and of course, the street. The stylish young man opposite is Abdel Tavares, originally from Guinea Bissau, brought up in Portugal and who now lives and works in London. We met in a shoe shop in East London and this is one of six images that I took that day. Another of the six images was very successful for me, the story about our journey to the National Portrait Gallery may be found HERE. It has been my great fortune to meet some wonderful personalities during my wandering around the streets of London. The generosity of the people that I stop never ceases to delight and amaze. That's the wonder of photography, Samy Chabani, Mick Taylor, Jamie, Raphaello, Enric and some whose names have been missed are just a few of the cast of characters who have kindly subjected themselves to my camera.
