Some comments from people who have bought my book 'Conversations'
The images are technically perfect in every respect, but what really comes through is your rare gift for connecting with the people you photograph. It shows in every one of the portraits. B.N. Madison WI, USA
It's an impressive body of work and it touched me greatly. Avedon's In the American West might well be my favourite book/project but even though it's stunning you still feel like a passive observer ? Your book was quite the opposite and you can almost 'feel' the connection you had with people. A.M. Tyne & Wear
I received your gorgeous book. It's a work of art. The portraits are wonderful. You have such an eye for people. G.M. London
David, quick word to say how much I enjoyed your book. It’s clear you put your heart and soul into it, along with years of time and effort - and you were well rewarded with the quality of the end product. It’s a fine thing indeed. P.G. Surrey
I am most impressed! The overall quality of the book is beautiful, the photos are both exquisite and fascinating and the conversations intriguing. D.H. Australia
Thank you for sending me your wonderful artwork. The photos are stunning, subjects very interesting. You seem to capture the essence of each character. R.S. Kent
I love the book and think the words really add to the whole. P.M. Surrey
David has produced another well-designed and attractive photobook – another carefully curated collection of portraits. I again like the division into portraits in monochrome and colour. David has chosen a stunning portrait for the cover – a profile of Love. I found the explanatory and supporting text pages interesting and complementary with references that I shall follow up. The book’s title and theme ‘Conversations’ is well-chosen and thought-provoking. It reminded me of something that David Hurn, the Magnum photographer, and others have said: ‘There is more that unites us than divides us.’ B.M. Shropshire
The book is wonderful! I’m so impressed seeing it in the flesh! The print quality for the images is excellent and I really love the switch between black and white and colour, that has worked so well. Each image has come out beautifully and I feel the sequencing does, as you planned, initiate a number of conversations on different registers. Congratulations! T.S. London
I've really enjoyed your book. In fact it seems the kind of work that reveals more on subsequent readings. I love your stories and the text, in particular the quote from Zeldin about how conversations lead to transformations. Of course most of all I love the photographs, and the theme of conversation. You've captured great characters in a great location. Having enjoyed the mono images so much, I was then surprised at the vibrancy of the colour shots. I look forward to seeing more of your work! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The image below didn't make the book, I'm not sure why but it's kind of representative of those that were chosen. What comes over for me is the appearance of an effort to intimidate. I think it has a certain edge and was taken just off Shoreditch High Street at a fashion shoot promoting Absolut Vodka
