I’d been to wonderful exhibition of contemporary art in an old warehouse in Shoreditch presented by artist Anna Laurini (see my first People I Meet post) , and some of her friends, fellow artists – it was a marvellous evening, live jazz, Italian snacks, beer or wine and some very interesting people. The show certainly lived up to its title - ‘Joie de Vivre’.
After a couple of hours of convivial company, I boarded a 26 bus back to Waterloo and there on the fourth row of seats was Anna. I was slightly taken aback but I had just asked about 20 people if I could take their portrait at the exhibition, I took the plunge. I asked Anna if I could take a photo however, it was impossible, what with the jolting of the bus and the difficulty of getting the right angle. So I settled for a chat but Anna was somewhat reticent. I did manage to discover that Anna was on the way to a club called ‘Halfway to Heaven’ near Trafalgar Square and was probably going to sing a few Sinatra numbers including ‘My Way’. I would guess from the accent that Anna was probably, from the North of England.
By this time, we were rapidly approaching Anna’s stop to change buses so I asked I could get off too and perhaps take a couple of photos. Not overly enthusiastic but willing, Anna posed for me outside Somerset House in The Strand. This was a fairly hurried affair because Anna was keen to continue the journey so I gave my thanks and my last sight was of a slightly wobbly Anna, half-way-to-heaven in a pair of six-inch, high-heeled gold shoes.
Hopefully, our paths will cross again
